Mojave Flute – demo

Mojave flute from Anasazi Dream Flutes – Mark Purtill This flute is an endblown PVC flute, mojave style flute, so it got 4 holes – rim blown instead of using a mouthpiece. Being rimblown is a challenge for those who are used to only playing the Native American Flutes exclusively because it requires special embochure, pressure control, great breath control, and the slightest change in the positioning can affect the entire sound. I am not a historian nor expert in the native American so this information could be wrong, but I am quite certain that the 'mouthpiece' isn't authentic mojave style flute if you're looking for a 100% accurate reconstruction. This flute's mouthpiece is more like a cross between a shakuhachi and a quena, so it is not as hard to play as a shakuhachi. I think anyone who can make a sound out of a soda bottle or a jug should be able to make a sound on this flute. This flute is quite easy for those with smaller hands. The sound is full and mellow. Being PVC it is also on the cheaper side of the market which makes it perfect if you want to start a rimblown flute but not sure on the investment. The melody it makes has a hint of that mystical middle eastern tone to it.
